Anthony Panugao

Anthony Panagao’s large canvas works are aflow with a fantastical revolving cast of humans, animals, and make-believe creatures. His paintings could be described as containing profuse imagery which relates timeless stories about the ongoing existential struggles of man.

Panugao chooses symbolism over realism creating dream worlds populated with figures from his imagination, mythology, and religion. His paintings explore and juxtapose imagery from common themes like death, love, fear, and desire.

I admired and was influenced by the works of Hieronymus Bosch, Auguste Rodin, Salvador Dali, and then my human matchsticks came I was inspired by Alberto Giacometti, and by Paul Gauguin.
