Ian Victoriano

Victoriano used an abstractionist approach in depicting the myth to shift the focus of myth representation from the pictorial to the emotional and psychological. By focusing on these aspects, there will be a greater connection with the viewers which will make the myth become more alive. It will also emphasize the essential purpose of myth-making which is to explain and make sense of phenomena primarily in the psychological and emotional sense rather than the rational.

By using an ancient myth as a subject, the artist intends to bring to attention that subjects in art and history are human constructions created out of the interaction of everyday existence and the imagination.

In using the term myth in this particular series, Victoriano would like to de-emphasize the prevailing notion of myth as a “false” story, “false” being a term used in relation of scientific “ truth”.
