Isang Ondon
Isang Ondon is an up-coming Davao-based women artist and member of the local art group ‘Pintanao’. The artist was selected by Nil Capinianes to represent his group, ‘Pintanao’ in conjunction with his two-person exhibition with Rodney Yap. Isang is a self-taught watercolorist who learned from colleagues, books, art tutorials online and social media. She began with watercolors as her medium but is now exploring other media like oil and acrylics. She particularly focuses on painting female portraits and she likes incorporating random patterns and other features, like flowers, to add another aesthetic to her works. Her first public exhibition was during the “Art Market”, held at Abreeza Mall, Davao City, February this year. Ondon likes painting faces with mundane and negative emotions using colorful and festive backgrounds to subtly distract her viewers.
“Most of the time, the people’s perception of my works is the opposite of mine, so instead of trying to explain my works, I’d rather have my audience interpret them on their own.”
