Lawrence Tulio

Lawrence Tulio’s paintings might be described as mythological themes with a twist.

The artist sees himself as a “visual teller”, and his detailed works project unusual, magical and selcouth tales. In Tulio’s paintings, objects and figures are set in the medieval era and then integrated to create a view from a term called “painting within a painting” which is is a group of multiple images collaborating as one whole subject piece. A world of fantasy and culture is made to appreciate and sometimes escape the reality to this dimension. Tulio works with traditional mediums and modern art techniques to delineate conceptual narratives and symbolism. He uses atmospheric perspective to render and produce a dramatic aura and give us situations with undecided futures. This is done by the use of subdued colors from light to dark which often creates a sense of movement guiding the eye of the viewer to its surrounding environment. The resulting works transform standard notions of the landscape into a narrative expressive form.
